Nom Nom Pho was one of those meals where everything went exactly right for us and spectacularly wrong for somebody sitting about six feet away. We walked in and the place was mostly empty. The greeter told us to seat ourselves, so I took that as permission to steal a booth. Our waitress was young, cute, attentive, definitely not Korean and kept everything moving without hovering. We started with the spicy edamame, which was yummy for my tummy. Then came the beef pho. I added a wedge of lime, tossed in some jalapeño and went to work. Slurp, slurp, slurp. Good broth, plenty of noodles, plenty of beef, and enough food that part of it is going to become tomorrow’s lunch. I also discovered what may be one of mankind’s greatest achievements in spoon technology. The soup spoon has a little hook on the end of the handle so it hangs on the edge of the bowl instead of sliding down into your pho and disappearing. Brilliant!! A pot of hot tea topped everything off, and we got out of there for less than $20 a head. Good food, good service, full belly, leftovers. Hard to complain about any of that. Unfortunately, the older couple in the booth behind us had a slightly different dining experience. Just as we were getting ready to leave, our waitress managed to dump a tray of ice water directly onto the woman behind us. I stifled the laugh. Mostly. The woman did not seem to find the situation nearly as funny as I did. I felt a little bad for the waitress, felt a little worse for the soaked lady, and then tipped extra for the laugh I was pretending not to have. Dinner and a show for under twenty bucks. I’ll be back.
